Founded in 1867 and located on the peak of Storm King Mountain (SKS) in the Hudson River Valley, The Storm King School is less than two hours from New York City. The school’s Science Department chair is former NASA scientist Dr. Paul Feffer. SKS offers unique, intensive short-term courses based upon student and faculty interest such as The Science and Art of Makeup and How Sports Shaped American Culture.
FACILITIES
The mountaintop campus features a 230-seat professional theater, an observatory with a Newtonian telescope, fully equipped science labs, access to the 3,800-acre Black Rock Forest Consortium, a gymnasium, five tennis courts, a brand new sports field, a ceramics studio, a greenhouse, private music practice rooms, and a recording studio. The school is in the process of building a brand new academic center.
SPORTS AND ARTS
Storm King’s sports teams have won 24 league championships over the last five years, and the boys’ basketball team has won the New England Prep School Athletic League championship for two years in a row. Storm King alumni include US Olympian Burke Boyce (fencing) and Thomas Price (rowing).
Storm King School offers an exceptional arts program with an especially competitive dance program in which students choreograph and present their own pieces each week. Students perform three major theater productions and a musical each school year. Academy Award-winning cinematographer and director Wally Pfister graduated from SKS.
DORMITORIES AND STUDENT LIFE
Storm King students live two to a room in spacious, fully-staffed dormitories. Students have access to various extracurriculars such as outdoor adventure and A Capella.
